The Mount Freehope School for Girls is a misnomer. It isn't much of a school at all, but rather a penal detention facility for wayward young ladies. Located in upstate Connecticut, this isolated facility nestled in a tranquil valley is home to debauchery and perversion. Kendra Blake, a bright young teenager, arrives at Freehope and soon discovers firsthand the debauchery so common in this horrible place. A very strong willed young lady, she quickly becomes determined to overcome the control of her depraved jailors and escape to freedom.

Kendra is a very bright, beautiful young teenager with a strong will and rebellious spirit. The circumstances under which Kendra arrives at the Mount Freehope School for Girls are never revealed in the story, so it is quite a mystery to the other girls at the school as to why she is there. The story is propelled forward by Kendra's voice-over narration, telling her story in sort of a real-time diary. After Kendra realizes the nature of the abuses being executed on the other residents of the boarding school by the male guards, she decides escape is her only option. However, after she discovers a mystical book deep in the catacombs of the facility, things suddenly change. |

The warden is a dirty old man who insists on seeing each and every "fresh fish" new arrival to Freehope first so as to go over the rules of the facility and then offer preferential treatment in return for sexual favors. It would seem that only occasionally does he exercise any kind of preferential treatment, reserving it for only those he is most attracted to. The warden himself is largely unconcerned with the debauchery occurring at the facility, turning a blind eye and instead focusing his time on gambling and pornography. |

Known and addressed simply by his last name, Mead is the very manipulative and cruel head of security at the Freehope facility. He is feared by all of his subordinates, who never do anything without his approval. The girls at the school fear him as well, as he is notorious for his abuse of power (he is quick to put the residents in isolation for minor infractions, or suspend their lunch priviledges). Unfortunately for Kendra, he has quite a "thing" for her, and likes to put her through the ringer. |

Dwyer is the guard who brought Kendra to the Freehope facility and took her to her room, where he uttered the words "welcome home", which bothered Kendra profoundly. Dwyer is Mead's right-hand man, and probably the busiest of the guards at Freehope. He is certainly a pervert, always staring lasciviously at the girls' bodies and making off-handed remarks of a sexual nature, but it is unclear whether or not he's done anything sexually with any of them. |

Samara is Kendra's closest friend at Freehope. She resides in the room adjacent to Kendra's and is one of the most relaxed of all of the girls at Freehope, having come to terms with the debauchery at the facility long ago. In fact, Samara has turned this debauchery to her favor, frequently offering sex in return for things like fast food, make-up, or entertainment (like DVDs or puzzle books). Samara is bi-sexual, though she keeps this largely to herself. She is very attracted to Kendra, but would never tell her that. |

The Visitor showed up secretly in the morgue, deep in the Freehope catacombs, with a mysterious book. He is clearly an invited visitor to the Freehope facility, as can be discerned by his dated visitor badge and the phone conversation he has with an unidentified Freehope employee. The visitor looks to be a forty-something biker judging by his attire and tattoos. With the book the visitor brings to the morgue, he attempts to resurrect a dead girl in the facility, but it doesn't quite go as planned. |

Desiree is a recent arrival at the Mount Freehope School for Girls. She has violent tendencies but does show respect for authority. She has been "in the system" since she was a young teenager, being bounced from one facility to the next. Desiree's violent tendencies stem from a deep trauma she suffered as a young girl, manifesting itself into angry outbursts of violent rage. These outbursts are usually on inanimate objects, but ocassionally she will physically injure other residents (some she even considered "friends"). Protocol usually is to transfer the offender to another facility under these circumstances, which is how she ended up at Freehope. |

Gretchen is one of the residents of the Freehope facility. She is a very frail, timid, and shy girl who doesn't interact too much with many of the residents of the Freehope facility. She gave Kendra a tour of the facility on the morning of her second day there, and brought her up to speed on the more "shady" aspects of the facility. Gretchen unfortunately has the attention of Mead, as do several of the girls at Freehope, and must deal with his constant harassment. |

Janice is a long-time resident of Freehope. She is very quiet and reserved, spending much of her time playing basketball by herself in an effort to avoid contact with the guards. She has a fabulously toned, athletic body and is quite good at basketball. Kendra meets her during her first week at Freehope and shares some interesting information with her about an unusual facility practice. |

Haley Holbrook was a young girl who had been physically injured by one of the guards during an altercation and died in the infirmary from her injuries. She was brought to the morgue and, in an attempt to cover the incident up, an outsider was brought in to Freehope in an attempt to resurrect her with black magic. It did not work out the way it was supposed to, and after a short period of resurrection, she once again fell dead. |
